philosophy
Birthing people are paired with an Advocate (based on identities, if preferred) for up to a year (extension possible) who can support them through the many transitions that can occur during the postpartum period. MAMA is a free resource for moms for up to a year after birth and can be extended if more support is needed.
For example, this may include:
Finding a perinatal therapist, doula, primary care provider, gynecologist;
Searching for postpartum, mom, caregiver support groups;
Helping to navigate the MA Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) program;
Looking for childcare options;
Finding baby activities;
Basic needs such as housing, food, etc.
How does it work?
Your Mom Advocate may:
Do a therapist search by zip code;
Email therapists for availability and insurance coverage;
Find a doctor currently accepting new patients that takes the Mom's insurance;
Call the PFML office to ask questions;
Help to complete paperwork.
